Wyoming Man Dies Monday In Accident
A Cheyenne young man, Gerald Worley, 18, was killed in a car-semi Truck Collision on U.S, 85 at Rockport about 5:25 a.m.  Monday, the Highway Patrol reported.

Worley died at the scene of head injuries, the patrol said.  His body was brought to the Adamson Mortuary here.

Three persons, all from Cheyenne, were injured in the accident.  They were Gary Matterl, 27 Thomas Whitley, 19, and Edward Pontillo.

All three suffered face lacerations.  They were taken to Memorial Hospital at Cheyenne.

Matterl and Whitley were passengers in 1963 auto which Worley was driving north, Patrolman William McGinley and Patrol Sgt. AV. Robison said.

Worley Swerved into the left lane of traffic and was struck head on by the semi-Truck Pontillo was driving south.  The car was damaged about $1,500, the truck $8,000.

The Cheyenne Man’s death was the 20 Traffic Fatality in Weld County this years and the 285th in the State.

Cheyenne Man Killed in Collision

A young Cheyenne man was killed at 5:25 a.m. Monday in a car-truck collision on U.S. 85 near Rockport, the Colorado Highway Patrol reported today. Gerald Jay Worley, 17, died of head injuries at the scene of the accident just south of the Wyoming Colorado line of the patrol said.

Driver of the semi-truck, Edward Pontillo of Cheyenne, and a passenger in the Worley car, Thomas Whitley, also of Cheyenne, are patients at Memorial Hospital where they are being treated for lacerations and bruises.  A third occupant of the Worley car, Gary Mattert of Cheyenne was not injured.

The 1963 auto being driven by Worley was northbound when the accident happened.  Highway patrolman said Worley swerved into the left lane of traffic and was struck head-on by the semi-trunk Pontillo was driving south.

The car was damaged about $1,500 and the truck $8000.
Worley had returned to Cheyenne three weeks ago after being employed by the Ford Company at Independence, MO.

He was born December 22, 1951, In Aurora, Ill., and had lived in Cheyenne off and on since 1960.  He attended Central High School.

Worley and the Former Judy Willis were married July 8, 1966, in Greeley.  They have a year-old Son, Billy.

Besides his wife and son.  Worley is survived by his father and mother, Russell E. Worley of Korea and Mrs. Laura Worley of Cheyenne; a sister, Sandra Worley of Cheyenne; and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. L.S. Worley of Spokane.

Worley’s body was taken to the Adamson Mortuary in Greeley but has been transferred to the Schrader Funeral Home which has Charge of Funeral arrangements.
