William B. Corley

A voice from heaven proclaimed,” Blessed is the dead who die in the Lord.

What a blessed hope to those who are heart broken to know that their departed loved ones have fallen in King Immanuel’s army.

For He has said: He that believeth in me, though he was dead, yet shall believe.

The subject of this sketch was truly one of the fathers in Israel.

He was born in Culpeper County VA. February 23,1812

He was converted and untied with the Methodist Church early in life. Col. Corley, as he was commonly called, was a man of strong convictions, and when once convinced of a thing being right nothing could cause him to deviate from what he believed to be the path of duty.

Men who have known Col. Corley for fifty years said to the writer; “I never knew him to do a dishonorable thing.”

This is great saying, and had he not been a Christian he would have been what the world called a god man anyway.

As a neighbor there were none better.

As a neighbor there were none better.

As a citizen there were none truer.

Col. Corley Married to Miss Elizabeth Magruder November 14, 1835.

There were born unto them three sons, and seven daughters. Two sons, one daughter preceded him to the eternal shore.

Col. Corley fell asleep October 21, 1900, at 7 p.m. being in the eighty-ninth year of his age.

After the funeral in his home Church, conducted by the writer, we laid his body to rest by the side of his faithful wife in the old family grave yard near Cropper, Ky.
