The Messenger December 18, 1931 pg 10. Frank Washburn Dies Suddenly Veteran Mail Carrier had been on Duty during Day: Funeral Saturday.

G. Frank Washburn 65 years old died suddenly at 7:20 o’clock last night at the family home 628 Daviess street of a heart attack. He had been at his post as a city mail carrier during the day, remaining at the post office until 5’ o’clock in the afternoon. He had been subject to heart trouble for several years.

Born at Hopkinsville, Mr. Washburn had lived in Daviess county most of life. For the last thirty years he had been connected with the postal department, and had reached the retirement age some months ago, but requested that he be given an extension of six months, before final retirement. Before coming to Owensboro, he lived in the Stanley section of the county, where he was engaged in farming.

Frank Washburn had a wide circle of friends in the city and county. His universal courtesy and good humor, though at times suffering from ill-health, had endeared him to his great number of friends. It was his indomitable energy which kept him at his post, when he could have retired on almost full salary, because of his long number of year’s service.

Surviving are the widow and three sons Charles, Ivo, and Russell, and one daughter, Mrs. Chester A. [Mary Scobee] Larue, all of Owensboro two half sisters, Mrs. Minnie Guthrie and Mrs. Vivian Konff, both of Indianapolis. Funeral service will be held at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon from the residence, with burial following in Elmwood Cemetery.
