FOLLOWED HIS TRADE FOR MORE THAN HALF CENTURY—FUNERAL TOMORROW.
Amherst, Jan. 18—Alfred H. Brown, 86, for more than 50 years a broom manufacturer on Meadow Street, North Amherst, died this morning at his home following a short illness.  
Mr. Brown was the son of Abel and Hannah [Ward] Brown and was born at Belchertown, Mary 27, 1842.  He was married twice.  His first wife was Ida Elsebree.  Mr. Brown married Jessie Loveland, October 11, 1897.  She survives.  He also leaves three daughters;   Mrs. Willard Gray of New Rochelle N.Y., Mrs. Henry A. Spear and Mildred Shepard Brown of North Amherst; a brother, Lafayette F. Brown of Michigan, the last member of the family of 10 children, and two grandchildren, Guilford E. Gay of New Rochelle and Russell Mayo Spear of Chicago. Mr. Brown was a member of the Knights of Malta Springfield and of North Amherst Parish.  
The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at home REV F.C. Seymour; pastor of the North Congregational Church, and REV B.F. Gustin, a former pastor, will officiate. Burial Will be in the West Cemetery.

MRS. JESSIE IRENE GAY, AMHERST RESIDENT DIES
 Amherst, September 4—Mrs. Jessie Irene Gay, wife of Willard Weston Gay of 81 Meadow Street, died this evening after a long illness. She was born in Amherst, the daughter of Alfred H. and Ida Elsbree Brown.  Educated in the Local schools, she attended Wilbraham academy.  She married Willard Weston Gay in New York City in 1895, and most of their married life was spent in New Rochelle, N.Y.  They came to Amherst to make their home July 1, 1942.  Mrs. Gay was active in the Work of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. In New Rochelle.

She leaves beside her husband, one son Guilford Elsbree Gay of Amherst: two grandsons, Corp Edward L. Gay of the United States Army, now stationed at Okinawa and Guildford E. Gay Jr., of Amherst; two sisters Mrs. Edit M. Spear and Miss Mildred Shepard Brown, both of North Amherst, and one nephew, Russell Spear of Madison, N.C.  
Funeral Services will be private and will be conducted by REV H. Robinson Shipherd of North Congregation church.  Burial Will be in North Amherst Cemetery

She lived here more than 75 years. She leaves a son, Russell M., of Madison N.C. and sister, Miss Mildred [Shepherd] Brown, with whom she made her home. Douglas Funeral home is in charge. Burial will be in the North Amherst Cemetery.

Mrs. Jessie Brown

Amherst, Jan. 3—Mrs. Jessie [Loveland] Brown, 90, of 81 Meadow St., North Amherst, died this morning.  Born in Northampton, June 10, 1865, she was the daughter of Milo and Mary [Shepherd] Loveland.

She attended Northampton Schools and came to make her home in North Amherst 72 years age.

Mrs. Brown was one of the oldest Members of the North Congregational Church, having been received into membership in 1892.  On October 7, 1897, she was married to Alfred H. Brown, who died on January 18, 1929.

Mrs.  Brown leaves a daughter, Miss Mildred Shepherd Brown, a teacher in the South Hadley High School, and a stepdaughter Mrs. Edith Spear, of North Amherst.

Funeral will be held in North Amherst Congregational Church Thursday at 2.  REV Grover C. Rieger, pastor, and REV Richard S. Knight, rector of Grace Episcopal Church, will officiate. Burial Will be in the North Amherst Cemetery.  There will be no calling hours.

She taught English of Amherst Regional High School 10 years, South Hadley High School 15 years and retired in 1969.



She was member of Massachusetts Teachers Association and North Congregation Church.



The Funeral will be Tuesday afternoon in the Church with burial in North Amherst Cemetery.  Douglas Funeral Home is in Charge.  Donations may be made to the Church library fund.
