I was introduced to Shelby County by a descendent of the Davis family. I have been doing genealogy for 8 years. I spend weekends and 1 week during the Summer. The people in Shelby County are dedicated to Genealogy Its the Home of many Horse Shows as well.

Shelby County, the twelfth in order of formation, is located in north-central Kentucky. It has an area of 385 square miles. The county was formed from a portion of Jefferson County on June 23, 1792, and was named in honor of Kentucky's first governor, Isaac Shelby (1792-96, 1812-16). The county seat is SHELBYVILLE.

The first settlers arrived in the Shelby County area in 1779. Squire Boone founded Painted Stone Station, located between present-day Shelbyville and Eminence. Other early settlers were Alexander Bryan, John Buckles, and Richard Cates. Squire Boone's Station was abandoned in September 1781, because of Indian attacks. In October 1788, at Tyler's Station on Tick Creek, Bland Ballard and his family were killed by Indians. Among the early settlements were Shelbyville, Pleasureville, and Simpsonville.
From September 1862 to January 1865, several Civil War skirmishes were fought in Shelby County. On August 26, 1864, a band of Confederate guerrillas, commanded by Capt. David Martin, attacked Shelbyville.
Tourism expenditures in the county totaled $2.6 million in 1988, a 14 percent increase over the previous year. Attractions include the Old Stone Inn, once a stagecoach tavern near Simpsonville, Science Hill Inn, and Claudia Sanders Dinner House, established by Col. Oldham County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. As of 2007, the population was 55,935. Its county seat is La Grange[1]. The county is named for Colonel William Oldham. Oldham County was a prohibition or completely dry county until January 2005 as the result of a 2004 'moist' vote, permitting sales of alcohol in restaurants that seat at least 100 patrons in which 70%+ of total revenue is derived from sales of food.
Oldham County is the wealthiest county in Kentucky and 48th wealthiest county in the U.S. and ranks second highest in Kentucky for percent of college educated residences. While the causes for this are complicated, areas east of Louisville have long been popular with wealthy residents, first as summer residences eventually as year-round suburban estates and bedroom communities. Oldham County lies northeast of the best known of these areas, but is still a part of Louisville's East End and a location of choice for Louisvillians who can afford it.

Genealogy is a nice Hobby and It is also nice when a person can plan a trip. My son's love when I plan a trip especially to Shelby, Henry and Oldham County Kentucky. These trips are simple and we have the best times. So these counties are friendly and especially for families looking for inexpensive and to do some genealogy.

Henry County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. It was formed in 1799. As of 2000, the population is 15,060. Its county seat is New Castle[1]. the county is named for Patrick Henry. The farmer-poet Wendell Berry lives in Henry County. Since the 1990s it has become an increasingly important exurb county for the city of Louisville, especially as land prices have skyrocketed in neighboring Oldham County.
With regard to the sale of alcohol, it is classified as a moist county—a county in which alcohol sales are prohibited (a dry county), but containing a "wet" city, in this case Eminence, where package alcohol sales are allowed.[2]
