The Funeral Will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the graves-side Denmark Cemetery, directed by Mercer Funeral Home.

Mrs. Wiley was born at Denmark, a daughter of the Late J.D. Milhous and Mrs. Martha Kittrell Milhous.  She was  a Methodist.

Surviving are: a Son, Robert M. Wiley of Rocky Mount, N.C. a daughter, Mrs. Helen Lynch of Odessa;  three sisters, Mrs. V.M. Salley and Mrs. Margaret Richardson, both of Columbia, and Mrs. Martha Brown of Charleston: six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren

Robert Mason Wiley

Robert Mason Wiley 73, died April 24, 1998.  He was born March 23, 1924 in Charlotte, the Son of Robert E. Wiley and Helen Milhous Wiley.  He married Margaret Winslow Wiley on April 19, 1952.
Mr. Wiley is survived by his daughter, Margo Wiley Bennett and Son-in-law, Shelley Bennett of Durham; daughter, Helen Paris Wiley and her companion, Marian Whitney Payson of Rochester, New York; and grandchildren Katherine Anne Bennett and Samuel Mason Wiley. He was proceeded by his wife and by his son, Mason Wiley.

Mr. Wiley was a graduate of Darlington School, the University of North Carolina [1948], and the University of North Carolina Law School [1951], where he was a member of the Board of Editors of the law Review.  He practiced Law for 45 years with the firm of Battle, Winslow, Scott & Wiley in Rocky Mount.  He was member of the Fourth Circuit [U.S.] Judicial Conference and of the Nash-Edgecombe County [President 1962-63], Seventh Judicial District [President, 1995], North Carolina and American Bar Associations.

A long-time member of the First United Methodist Church in Rocky Mount, Mr. Wiley served as a Trustee, member of the Administrative Board, Sunday School Teach, and lay minister at various times.

Had served during World War II as a member of the US Army Air Corps.  He also was a member of the Kiwanis Club where he served a term as President.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, April 27, 1998 at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Rocky Mount.  Interment of both Mr. and Mrs. Wile will be in the Church Columbarium following service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church, 100 South Church Street, Rocky Mount.

MOUNT PLEASANT—Von Etta Milhouse Salley, 92, of 921 Bowman Road, died Jan 2. 1989.

She was a graduate of Columbia College, and  also earned a master’s degree from the University of South Carolina and Columbia University in New York City.  She was a retired professor of library science and a retired librarian at Columbia College and USC.

She was a member of the American, Southeastern and South Carolina Library associations.  She was a member of the South Carolinian Society, the South Carolina Historical Society and the South Carolina Education Association.

She was a member of Washington Street United Methodist Church in Columbia.

Surviving is her daughter Patricia Salley Hollings of Charleston.

Graveside services: 10:30 a.m. Friday in Denmark Cemetery.  Denmark. J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Downtown Chapel, Charleston

CHARLESTON - Services for Patricia Salley "Pat" Hollings, 78, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 18, 2001 at the James A. McAlister Chapel, 1620 Savannah Hwy. Burial will be in Bethany Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home, Sunday from 1 p.m. until time of service. James A. McAlister, Inc. is in charge of arrangements.



Mrs. Hollings, former First Lady of the State of South Carolina from 1958 to 1962 died Friday, February 16, 2001 in Charleston. Mrs. Hollings was born May 15, 1922 in Columbia, the daughter of John Haskell and Vo nEtta Milhous Salley. She graduated from Columbia High School, attended Converse College and the University of South Carolina, where she was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority. As First Lady, she was instrumental in attracting new business to the state. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and La Sertoma where she became active in the Easter Seals Campaign and the Charles Webb Children's Center. Mrs. Hollings was recently awarded the Order of the Palmetto for service to the state as First Lady.

Surviving are her sons, Ernest Frederick Hollings, III of Kissimmee, Fla., Michael M. Hollings of Columbia; daughters, Salley Hollings of Charleston, Helen R. Reardon of Glennwood Springs, Conn.; grandchildren, Salley Hollings Seabrook, Patricia Salley Schwerdt, Steffani Conner Schwerdt, John Elliott Reardon, II, Dain Frederick Reardon, Patricia Hayne Reardon, Christopher Charles Milhous Hollings.

Miss Salley, Mr. Hollings To Wed in March


Announcement has been received here of the engagement of Miss Patricia Salley, daughter of Mrs. VonEtta Milhous Salley, of Columbia; to Mr. Ernest Frederick [Fritz] Hollings, of Charleston and the University of South Carolina.  The wedding will take place in March.

Miss Salley attended Converse college for two years and later attended the University of South Carolina, where she majored in fine arts.  At the university she was pledged to Kappa Delta women’s fraternity and was a member of Junior Damas.  She has been residing in Columbia since her graduation from the John Robert Powers school in New York, last year.  And is a member of the Spinsters’ club of Columbia.

Mr. Hollings son of Mrs. Adolph G. Hollings of 338 President Street, and the late Mr. Hollings, was graduated in 1942 from the Citadel where he was captain of his company and a member of the Round Table.  He served for three years in the European theater in anti-air-craft and held the rank of first lieutenant.  He has been attending the University of South Carolina since his discharge from the service.  His mother is the For Miss Wilhelmina Meyer, of this city.
