1. How did the lives of the animals become more difficult in the beginning of Chapter VI?

All that year the animals worked like slaves. Pg 46

Through the spring and summer they worked a sixty hour week and in August Napoleon announced that there would be work on Sunday afternoons as well. This was strictly voluntary, but any animal who absented himself from it would have his rations reduced by half. Pg 47.

After the rebellion and under Napoleon rule life was much harder then when it was under Mr. Jones. The animals didn’t have a say.

With some difficulty Muriel spelt it out.

It says NO ANIMAL SHALL SLEEP IN A BED WITH SHEETS.

She announced finally.

Clover had not remembered that the Fourth Commandment mentioned sheets.

Squealer uses Muriel explanation to his advantage because the whole matter in its proper perspective. Pg 52
