On May 1, 1965, Margaret Ann Davis (Meg) and I were married. Meg is Grace Kelly's niece and the Godmother of Princess Caroline, who, in turn, is Godmother to my eldest child, Richard. Meg's mother, Peggy, was Grace's eldest sister. This was a big "step-up" for me- a kid from the streets of New York City. I'm of Irish descent and, if you're Irish, we feel the two most famous Irish-American families are the Kennedy's and the Kelly's.

MARGARET CONLAN, SISTER OF GRACE AND JACK KELLY: Newspaper Obituary and Death Notice
Philadelphia Inquirer, The (PA) - Thursday, November 28, 1991
Deceased Name: MARGARET CONLAN, SISTER OF GRACE AND JACK KELLY

Margaret Conlan, 65, sister of the late actress Grace Kelly, died Saturday in Philadelphia after a long illness.

Mrs. Conlan, who grew up in Philadelphia and lived in the Fairmount neighborhood, was even more beautiful than her younger sister Grace, said her nephew John B. Kelly.

"She was probably the prettiest of all of them, even though Grace got the attention when she went to Hollywood," he said.

Known as Peggy, Mrs. Conlan was a philanthropist, giving money to at least two of the organizations her family supported: Women's Medical College of Pennsylvania and the Vesper Boat Club. Her brother, Jack Kelly, who died in 1985, and her father, John Kelly, had won medals for rowing in the Olympics.

Mrs. Conlan graduated from the Stevens Academy, a high school that was in Germantown. She enjoyed the ocean and visiting the family's vacation home in Ocean City, N.J., her nephew said.

"She'd invent games," he recalled. "At family outings, she'd take photographs from newspapers and substitute faces. You had to guess who the face really belonged to. Sometimes the faces would belong to family members and she'd poke fun at them."

Mrs. Conlan's first marriage, to George L. Davis,  ended in divorce, as did her second marriage, to Eugene Conlan.

She is survived by her daughters from her first marriage, Margaret Rowe and Mary Lee Kenworthy; a sister, Lizanne LeVine, and eight grandchildren.

After services yesterday at the McIlvaine Funeral Home in East Falls, Mrs. Conlan was buried at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Cheltenham Township.

Biography Olympics’
John Kelly Jr. never quite enjoyed the great Olympic success of his father, Jack, Sr., but surely one of his most satisfying victories had to be in 1947 when he won the Diamond Sculls at the Henley Regatta, finally bringing that title to the Kelly family. It was one of only many championships that he won, and included eight U.S. National single sculls titles, six Canadian single sculls championships, and two gold medals at the Pan American Games - single sculls in 1955 and double sculls in 1959 with Bill Knecht. Kelly, Jr. won the Diamond Sculls again in 1949, and was world singles champion in that year. At the Olympics, John, Jr. was not quite able to grab the gold ring, but at the 1956 Olympics, though probably a bit past his peak as a single sculler, he put on an outstanding performance to take the bronze behind Russia's Vyacheslav Ivanov, and Australia's Stuart Mackenzie. John Kelly, Jr. was very active in sports administration, especially in rowing. He served as a president of the AAU, president of the USOC, and president of the International Swimming Hall of Fame. His business was as chairman of the board of John B. Kelly, Inc., a masonry contracting company.

Born Grace Patricia Kelly in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to John and Margaret Kelly, a wealthy construction manager, she was the third of four children. With natural beauty, she attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, and began a modeling career, quickly turning to movies. Her first major picture was "High Noon" (1952) with Gary Cooper, which caught Hollywood's attention. She played in "Dial M for Murder" (1954), Rear Window (1954), "The Country Girl" (1954), "To Catch a Thief" (1955), and "The Bridges of Toko-ri" (1956). At the Cannes Film Festival in 1955, she met Prince Rainier, ruler of Monaco, and within a year, they were engaged. On April 19, 1956, she married Prince Rainier in Monaco in the "Wedding of the Century," allowing MGM Studios to film the entire wedding in exchange for ending her seven-year movie contract. As Princess of Monaco, she remained in the public eye, always showing dignity and grace, further warming her with her adopted country and with the American public. She and Prince Rainier had three children: Caroline, Albert, and Stephanie. On September 13, 1982, she and Princess Stephanie were involved in an accident when their car slipped off the winding roads of France near Monaco. When the car stopped rolling, Stephanie, while injured, was safe, but Grace died of her injuries the next day. (bio by: Kit and Morgan Benson)  Family links:   Parents:   John B.
