Died Tuesday, June 13, 2006, at Cokesbury Village in Hockessin, DE on the day before his 98th birthday.

Ed was raised on family farms in Shelby and Oldham Counties, KY with his 3 brothers, Thomas, Joe, and John, by their parents, Fleet Goodridge and Nancy Fullenwider Davis. In 1929, he graduated with the first class of the Speed School of Engineering at the University of Louisville. His long career as an electrical engineer included work with General Electric, EssoStandard Oil, and the DuPont Company. Highlights included the building of the IND Line of the NYC subway system and oil refinery systems in South America, development of solid state motor control which advanced many forms of precision manufacturing, oversight of design and construction of Christiana Medical Center, and the restoration of a historic hydro-electric power system at Hagley Museum in Wilmington, DE. He was a Fellow of the American Consulting Engineers Council. Ed was an active member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and worked to construct the church's present sanctuary. He later arranged to bring the church steeple from near his home in KY. He was also instrumental in the development of the Methodist Country House in Wilmington. Ed was an athlete, outdoor enthusiast, and world traveler. He was a member of the 9-19 Club at Wilmington Country Club. In 2002, he climbed the Great Wall of China on a trip with family and friends. A non-stop learner himself, Ed continued throughout his life to share his extensive knowledge of sports, engineering, and family history. He was honored to be appointed a Kentucky Colonel by the Governor of the Commonwealth.
Ed was the husband of the late Joan Durr Davis and is survived by his 3 children, Fleet G. Davis, II, Wilmington, DE, Edward W. (Ned) Davis, Jr., New York, NY, and Leslie Anne Weigel, Bowling Green, KY. He will also be missed by his son- and daughters-in-law, Richard, Nancy, and Judith; by his 5 grandchildren, Ward, Lee, Lauren, Nate, and Alexis, and their spouses, Jessica, Amanda, and Emily; and by 3 beloved great-granddaughters, Emma, Kate, and Olivia.
Visitation will occur on Friday, June 16, from 6-8 pm at CHANDLER FUNERAL HOME, 7230 Lancaster Pike, in Hockessin, DE. A memorial service is scheduled at 2 pm on Saturday, June 17, at the Cokesbury Village Chapel, 726 Loveville Rd., Hockessin, DE. Interment will be private.

Edward Wilson Davis is 2nd Cousin Once Removed from REV Oliver Paul Barnhill. James William Barnhill Great Aunt was Lucretia Jane Barnhill Davis. They are all descendents of Daniel Boone . Ruth Boone to Daniel Boone is a 1st cousin Once Remove.
REV Oliver Paul Barnhill is most notably responsible for the Marriage between Enrico Caruso to One Dorothy Park Benjamin.
