Death Mrs. Oressa L. George

Committal services for Mrs. Oressa L. George, a former missionary and for many years supervisor of Hasseltine House at Newton Centre, will be held at 2 P.M. today in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.  Funeral services will precede at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William W. Chace, of 64 Mooreland Ave, Edgewood, R.I., where died on Wednesday, aged 83.

During her lifetime Mrs. George prominently identified with Baptist missionary interests and for 17 years she and her husband, the late Rev, William W. George, were missionaries in Burman, India, returning to this country in 1886 on account of Mr. George’s health.  She is survived by four children, Frank E. George of San Francisco, Cal; Mrs. William W. Chace of Ridgewood, R.I.; Harry A. George of Melrose and Mrs. Elinor T. Waterman of Framingham.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Demetria Simmons George former head of the Boston University Information Service, will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Newtown Center Methodist Church.  She died Wednesday at her home in Newton Centre.
Mrs. George was the first director of the University’s information service, which answers inquiries about education, personnel and activities of the institution.
A Graduate of Boston University, she had been a teacher of Greek and Latin in Ware before joining the B.U. Staff.  She leaves a son, Harry A. George. And a daughter, Mrs. Alden Speare.  She was the widow of Harry A. George.

Mrs. Speare was a well-known author of historical novels for children, and was a Wethersfield resident for 20 years. She was a member of the Easton Congregational Church, and was a founder of the Friends of the Easton Library Association. Survivors include her husband, Alden Speare; a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Carey of Shaker Heights, Ohio; and five grandchildren. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service Monday, Nov. 21, 11 a.m., in the Easton Congregational Church. Burial will be private in Union Cemetery, Easton. It has been requested that prior calling hours be omitted, and if desired, contributions may be made to the Save the Children Federation, 54 Wilton Road, Westport 06880. The Spear Funeral Home, 39 S.
